The Woman's Discovery Center is pleased to present
"DISCOVERY GIRLS:
Making a Difference in My Home, My Community, and My World,"
a summer day camp for 9 - 12 year-old girls.
Two sessions of the day camp will be offered:
Camp Session I will be held Tuesday – Thursday, June 24 - 26.
Camp Session II will be held Tuesday – Thursday, July 22 - 24.
Camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. each day.
Cost for the camp is $120, which includes all materials and lunch.
This camp has been designed to encourage girls from all walks of life to come together to learn, interact, and have
fun in a small group atmosphere. Registration is limited to 20. A few scholarships are available.
The first day of camp will be centered around making a difference in our homes. Girls will arrive to the smell of sugar cookies baking! On day one, we will take a creative look at all things domestic! We will cook, iron a shirt, tackle basic sewing skills, and learn how to make good decisions about everything from money management to sunscreen to fashion! We'll even make scrapbooks to preserve special memories of our time at camp.
Day two will find us taking a closer look at our community. We will learn about our city and the election process. We will also have many special visitors on this day. Would you like to get a first hand look at an animal from the Crowley's Ridge Nature Center? Do you want to learn more about serving others in our community? Would you like to hear first-hand stories about some of Jonesboro's amazing career opportunities for women? Does a self-defense lesson sound like a good idea? If so, you will really enjoy this day at camp.
Our final camp day will focus on making a difference in our world. We will begin with International Show and Tell. We'll take a look at different cultures, celebrate both our differences and our similarities, and learn how to help newcomers feel welcome. We'll get a Salsa dance lesson from a pro, and we'll have a fiesta for lunch. We'll go on Internet Scavenger Hunts and create personal brochures while learning how to stay safe on the computer. We'll also get some new ideas about saving our planet. Our recycled fashion show will put a new spin on "Project Runway!" Camp will conclude with a session to remind each of us of just how special we are. We'll be ready to make a difference wherever we go!
Throughout the week we’ll sprinkle our activities with songs and cheers and interactions with great teen role models as well as well as meetings with fascinating women from our community. The camp will be held at The Woman’s Discovery Center on Market Place Drive. Come along and join the fun!

Register soon because space is limited to 20 campers for each session, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Full payment of $120 is due at registration by cash, check, or credit card. (Refund less $25 administrative fee if cancelled two weeks prior to camp session. No refund for cancellations within two weeks of session.)
